FAQ
Data type
What types of data can I find on the platform?
The types of data available on Artesian are:
- Actual Time Series: Granular data series (hourly, every 10 minutes, monthly, daily, etc.) where each data update overwrites the previous values.
- Versioned Time Series: A variant of Actual Time Series where historical variations of the data are stored, enabling extraction to view the latest available data or analyze data changes over time by extracting various saved versions.
- Auction Time Series: Classic supply and demand curves for market price formation.
- Market Assessment Time Series: Represents the buying and selling trades of any commodity, stored in candlestick format, depicting data with opening price, closing price, highest and lowest prices, average price relative to closed trades, and volume information.
Market assessments can be provided directly by the provider (e.g., EEX provides them on a daily basis) or calculated by Artesian if there’s access to a market bid and offer stream. - GME Public Offers: Data from the Italian electricity spot market (GME), stored and made available by Artesian. The data is fully historical, allowing extraction of all individual offers that support the calculation of the marginal system price for each market session.
Data provider or information mediator
Is Artesian a data provider?
NO, Artesian is NOT a data provider, Artesian is an aggregator of information from multiple providers. It doesn’t act as a data reseller but authorizes data downloads on behalf of clients.
Artesian downloads data distributed by major market sources, standardizing different formats and structures to simplify the data analysis process for collected data.
Data ownership
Do I have dedicated storage? Can you guarantee that the data is exclusively mine even if it's not hosted on my infrastructure?
Artesian provides dedicated storage for each product subscription made by the customer. Even if the data is the same for all, it is downloaded and saved each time to ensure data ownership and independence for each customer in their data management. Artesian acts as an intermediary between the provider and the end customer, offering a service to standardize the collected information and facilitate its search and use. Therefore, it does not position itself as a data provider and leaves complete ownership of the data to the customer. As a result, the customer is required to provide, at the time of subscribing to a new connector, dedicated credentials (if requested by the provider) for data download by Artesian.
What is Artesian/What does Artesian do?
It's not clear to me what Artesian does. I don't understand what I do with Artesian. Do you sell data? (Artesian is a mediator and not a data provider)
Artesian acts as the intermediary between you and the pool of data you need to use daily to make decisions. Since these data sources are heterogeneous and distributed, Artesian’s task is to gather them in one place, standardize them into a common structure, and make them easily usable through APIs or SDKs.
Artesian does not sell data because it doesn’t operate as a data provider. Instead, it collects the information you’re interested in on your behalf.
How do I download data from Artesian?
SDK - API - Portal/API
The data retrieval is available through SDKs for major programming/modeling languages such as C#, Python and Matlab. Alternatively, you can directly use the API or download an Excel file from the portal, which will already be configured to use our APIs and allow you to create reports more conveniently.
Can I protect/segregate access to my data?
Are all the data contained in Artesian protected by authentication? Is access to data segregated (through ACL, it is possible to grant access to individual data to a user)? Access to features is segregated.
Any data downloaded from Artesian is subject to authentication and policy verification. Essentially, a user, after authentication, can only perform operations for which they are authorized. Access to data and features is granular as permissions for data reading can be defined down to a single curve or decide which product features can be exercised. Artesian can be configured for internal use within the company or can be used to share data externally with total security.
Can I write my data to Artesian?
Is it possible and/or How can I write data to Artesian?
Among the various services offered, there is also a writing connector to Artesian. This way, it is possible to write the company’s private data, organized as desired and with complete autonomy, and then distribute them just as easily through the product.
What happens if I cannot find a provider of interest?
I want data from provider YYYY, how can I do it? I don't see it listed.
If there’s a connector of interest to you that isn’t available in our listing, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’ll evaluate the new data source together with you and add it to the offering at no additional development cost.
Limits in the use of Artesian (both physical limitations in using the product and lack of understanding of how to extract data)
Am I limited in any way in using Artesian? How do I extract data in a certain way?
There are no limits to the use of the product; however, there are best practices to follow to fully exploit Artesian’s capabilities. The infrastructure is dedicated to you and not shared with others, allowing you the best possible user experience.
For guidance on how to extract data, please refer to our guides and tips in the dedicated section.
